Year Round Classes

Leela’s year-round kathak classes and programs provide children and youth (ages 5-17) with the opportunity to receive world-class training in kathak dance. Leela’s curriculum is grounded in the pedagogy of kathak master and guru, Pandit Chitresh Das and emphasizes the development of foundational technique and core skills, while nurturing artistic expression and creativity. New students are invited to drop into one of our beginning classes for a free trial and experience the joy and excitement of kathak dance.

Summer Programs

For children and youth ages 5-12, Camp Leela offers an opportunity to study kathak dance in a vibrant, immersive environment. In this 5-day camp, students learn the dance form’s key elements – music, movement, rhythm and storytelling – in a fun and challenging environment while developing their self-confidence, imagination and creativity. Camp Leela welcomes new and returning students, and provides a gateway into the India’s rich artistic and cultural heritage for families and communities.

Leela Youth Dance Company

Passionate and talented dancers (ages 13+) are encouraged to audition for the Leela Youth Dance Company (LYDC), an elite pre-professional performing group under the artistic direction of kathak artist, Rukhmani Mehta. The company champions excellence in kathak dance, while serving as a platform for youth leadership development. LYDC performs year-round, representing the best in kathak dance on community and mainstages across the country and engaging diverse audiences with India’s rich artistic and cultural heritage.
